Title:                             Systems Engineer/Technical Support Lead

Location:                      California, MD

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Provide technical support leadership for UNIX system administration, and ancillary support in the areas of programming, software automated deployment, and third tier user support.  This is in support of an US Navy web application development and operation environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide primary UNIX system administration support for development and test servers; these servers support back-end web and database functions.
• Provide primary UNIX scripting support (e.g., PERL, shell).
• Provide leadership for implementing UNIX-based software automated deployment.
• As needed, provide third-tier technical support for user help issues.
• Interface with developers and testers for the appropriate configuration and tuning of UNIX servers.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Five years Information Technology/system administration experience.
• Solid UNIX system administration experience with demonstrable results (e.g., managed systems showing minimal downtime, ability to quickly troubleshoot and resolve system issues, server config documentation).
• Experience in successfully writing and maintaining UNIX-oriented scripts.
• Experience in providing third-tier support for user help issues.
• BS in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
• Secret clearance.
• Very highly desirable: DoD 8570 and/or IAT Level 2 certification.
• Good verbal/written communication skills and strong customer service skills/diplomacy.

EQUIPMENT AND APPLICATIONS

• Either Linux or Solaris system administration (Solaris preferred).
• Scripting languages: one or more of PERL, C-Shell, KORN-Shell.
• Desirable: any web programming technologies.
• Desirable: administration support of MySQL or ORACLE databases.
• Basic competency in MS SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio or equivalent free-ware packages.
