Network Engineer  Carrier Services Data

JOB SUMMARY:

· Responsible for conducting overall system testing for Commercial Business products involving fiber access solutions.

· Interoperability testing in lab site to include multiple configurations of Cisco Routers and Switches and other vendor hardware to interoperate with Cisco’s solutions.

· Coordinates with network equipment vendors to ensure current hardware and software features are available to support testing scenarios.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

· Create Acceptance Test Plan (ATP) criteria.

· Support Principal Engineers in all aspects of lab testing to include wiring, racking, configuration of Cisco Routers, and performing test plans.

· Design and tests network solutions for use in production systems.

· Responsible for the development of documentation related to protocol and architectural designs, changes, migration plans, and other technical documentation for supporting staff.

· Evaluates new release codes from vendors for production.

· Document and work with vendors to correct Acceptance Test failures.

· Assist Operating Groups and Corporate Engineers in deployment of network solutions.

· Assist Principal Engineers in assessing the readiness of specific system networks; recommends modifications necessary to deploy data and Carrier services.

· Creates and manages timelines and project plans for product development of telephony related network elements and develops practices / standards.

· Performs other duties as requested by supervisor

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Must have at least 10 years experience in of cable and telecommunications industry.

· Must have at least 10 years experience with hands on configurations of Cisco/Juniper network devices

· Expert Knowledge in network architecture, protocols and network topology

· Expert Knowledge of cable television products and services

· Knowledge of related industry specifications and standards: IEEE, ANSI, SCTE, DVB, ATSC, ITU

· Expert in ISIS, iBGP, eBGP routing architecture in an ISP environment.

· Expert knowledge with MPLS, VPLS architectures

· 10 years experience in configuration of MPLS service to include both L2 VPN’s and L3 VPN’s using MPLS.

· 10 years experience in configuration of VPLS services to include point to point topologies, point to multipoint topologies and multipoint to multipoint topologies.

· 10 years experience in configurations of ISIS and BGP routing protocols.

· Expert knowledge in optical transport which includes both ROADM technology and PON architectures.

· 10 years Experience with configuration of SONET (Ethernet over SONET; DSx; OCx, VCAT, LCAS) networks.

· 10 years experience with Layer 2 architectures.

· 10 years of Configurations of Layer 2 networks.

· 10 years experience with Circuit Emulations or TDMoX technologies.

· Knowledge and experience with MEF 9,MEF 14, MEF 18, MEF 22, MEF 26

· 10 years experience in Wireless (WiMax, and WiFi architectures and technologies)

· Ability to analyze vendor proposals and determine the appropriateness of the recommended network solution

· Ability to create a Test Plans in MS Word.

· Ability to prioritize and organize effectively

· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals

· Ability to translate configuration specifications into working device configurations

· Ability to use personal computer and software applications (i.e. word processing, spreadsheet, etc.)

· Knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology

· Knowledge in network designing software

· Knowledge of support systems for network management and element management systems Demonstrated knowledge of DOCSIS 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0; Packet Cable; and DOCSIS Set-Top Gateway.

· Knowledge of implementing and managing provisioning suite (e.g., dhcp, tftp, dns, time of day)

· Knowledge in using tools (e.g., network sniffers, IXIA, Spirent, EXFO)

· Knowledge in remote access solutions

Education

· Bachelor's OR Masters degree in Engineering, information technology or related field.

· Valid drivers license, satisfactory driving record within Company required standards, and auto insurance
