Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for 24 x 7 proactive and reactive monitoring of the Network Operations Center (NOC). Assist field personnel with repairs, monitoring information on all sites and back haul and identify deterioration of components in the system. Responsible for the more complex testing and analysis of network facilities.

Accountable for but not limited to one of the following lines of business: Digital Video, Telephony and IP CORE Services.  

Develop problem resolution procedures required to meet serviceability requirements

Monitor all network elements and alarms

Identify alarm correlations and appropriate response actions for future automation

Maintain awareness of network activities affecting local elements

Activate & deactivate network elements as required to maintain service levels, support change activity and

implement service restoration

Provide timely and accurate daily/weekly/monthly/annual reports

Recommend solutions to correct network faults

Work with vendors to resolve complex network/equipment problems

Function as lead level; provide technical guidance and assistance to other Network Specialists

Advise NOC Manager and Specialists of network communications failures

Perform other duties as requested by supervisor

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Skills/Abilities and Knowledge

Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and straightforward manner

Ability to isolate and troubleshoot failed equipment, facility issues and other components of the network

Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure

Ability to work with others to resolve problems, handle requests or situations

Knowledge and understanding of Data and Voice communications networks, IP networking

Knowledge of all products, services, and NOC procedures

Knowledge of cable television products and services

Knowledge of Digital Conditional Access (DAC) systems and encryption.

Knowledge of Motorola DAC and NAS digital headend equipment.

Knowledge of Scientific-Atlanta DNCS digital headend equipment.

Knowledge of CPE, including digital set-tops middleware and applications

Knowledge of interactive video systems including applications such as VOD.

Knowledge of digital program insertion systems

Knowledge of digital video service offerings (VOD, iTV, HDTV, DVR) a plus.

Knowledge of Analog (RF) and Digital Video signals (MPEG and AC-3).

Knowledge of CiscoWorks, Remedy, Micromuse Netcool network and element

management systems

Knowledge of tools used in monitoring the network including Remedy, HP, Cisco Works,

Micromuse Netcool

Knowledge of UNIX workstations

B. Education (level and type)

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field, or equivalent experience

C. Related Work Experience (One or more of the following) Number of Years

Network troubleshooting and surveillance experience 2 years

Technical Experience with one or more of the following technologies is required:

Digital Video Services: digital video service offerings (VOD, iTV, HDTV, DVR),

DAC and NAS digital headend equipment 2 years

  1. Certifications and/or Licenses

Cisco certification preferred, or related technical field, or equivalent experience

Unix certification preferred, or related technical field, or equivalent experience

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Office environment

Scheduled periodic 24 x 7 on call availability required

May require shift work with varying schedules in 24 x 7 Network Operations Center
